Unexpected

© 2001It was only yesterday
I remarked to a friend
That spring was slow in coming.
I remember leaden sky,
the wind’s cold fingers.
Today: a day of summer,
Spring has passed us by.
The sun blazes with a vengeance
to make up for its late arrival,
To appease those tired of the cold –
Open windows wide, or turn up the fans.
